Greeting card illustrating elegant ladies playing badminton in a garden in France c.1800. Printed in England on a light cream, 300gsm carbon-neutral Italian paper, made from 100% recycled post-consumer waste.

Some of the women, known as merveilleuses, have their hair in the fashionable short cut known as the victime, worn as a reaction to the Reign of Terror and the guillotine in post-revolution France. Adapted from an illustration by Dominique Bosio from Pierre de la Mésangère’s series ‘Le Bon Genre’, reproduced in Henry René Allemagne’s Sports et Jeux d’Adresse (Paris, 1903).

All our greeting cards are 170mm x 120mm (approx. 5” x 7”) and blank inside, individually wrapped in a compostable wrapper made from plants, with a 100% recycled, 110gsm kraft envelope.
