Printers, Papers, Sustainability

When it comes to sustainability and waste we are acutely aware of the need to achieve and maintain the highest environmental standards in the manufacture and distribution of our greetings cards.

All our cards are printed in England using sustainably sourced, FSC approved Italian paper (FSC C015978) and vegetable-based inks. Each card is packaged with a recycled fleck kraft envelope and, from July 2019, wrapped in a compostable PLA bag made from plant materials (we aim to become completely plastic free at some point in 2020 as stock wrapped in recyclable cellophane dwindles). Both our envelopes and compostable wrappers are manufactured in England.

Our printing methods conform to the highest industry environmental standards. All our stock is printed on a carbon neutral press, one of the first in the UK.  ‘The hi-tech four-colour press generates virtually no ink waste, produces a 20% increase in productivity and at least 18% reduction in energy utilisation‘, according to our wonderful printers, Alpha Colour.

The distribution of our cards is also of prime concern. While for small orders we use Royal Mail, for our larger packages we ship via couriers who are actively reducing their carbon footprint. We also use recyclable packaging and reuse old packaging where appropriate. If you have any environmental concerns about your Pattern Book order, please get in touch as we’re always looking to improve our footprint.
